Preschool Program: This program is designed to serve children with and without disabilities from 2 ½ to 5 years old. The staff is comprised of licensed/certified teachers, Ed Techs and therapists (OT, PT, S/LP). The classroom is a combination of two groups; a childcare group with hours from 7:30 a.m.-4:00 p.m., and a Developmental Therapy group with an AM session (8:30-11:30) and a PM session (12:00-3:00).
School Program: An educational program for students ages 5-20. MDC works with various school departments to provide the best programs possible for children with multiple disabilities. Staffed by a Special Education Teacher, 3 Ed Techs and licensed PT, OT and S/LP, curriculum is geared to the individual needs of each student. Student/teacher ratio is low in order to provide a great deal of individualized instruction necessary to insure attainment of IEP goals and objectives.
AHEAD Program: Located in Scarborough, this program serves over 35 adults over the age of 20 with developmental disabilities. The program addresses social, emotional and physical development as well as learning and problem solving in all areas of adult daily life. Activities stress individual choice, community integration, and involvement in an environment that is age appropriate and as unrestrictive as individual needs allow. Individuals may receive PT, OT and Nursing as needed and as indicated on the Person Centered Plan (PCP).
Seedling Program: This is an innovative training and day habilitation program for individuals with developmental disabilities over the age of 20. Individuals work in a Greenhouse setting and receive instruction and close supervision in tasks related to growing plants. The consumers often interact with the general public in selecting and purchasing plants and assist with carrying items purchased to their cars. All of the adults participate in the Person Centered Planning process which is individually designed to meet their needs.
Community Integration Program: The primary objective of this program is to provide enriching and engaging experiences in the community on a daily basis that adults 20 years and older might not normally be able to experience. The program is designed to allow the individuals to direct the activities they wish to pursue. Examples of activities include walking at various city and state parks, participating at the YMCA, going to sporting events, eating lunch at restaurants, attending music events and going shopping. Almost a one-to-one program, the individuals are well supervised the entire time they are participating in community events. All adults participate in the PCP planning process and have specific goals and objectives that are addressed on a daily basis.
Case Management Program: For eligible children and young adults up to age 20, case management services are designed to address the unique challenges facing individuals and families with developmental disabilities. Strategies are developed that encourage positive growth through support and access to various medical, social and educational services. Services include: intake and assessment, individual and family support, development of an action plan based upon family desires and needs, support to better access needed resources and advocacy.
